Dendrobium Anosmum Variety Alba a.k.a Honohono Orchid

Dendrobium Anosmum Variety Alba a.k.a Honohono Orchid - Dendrobium anosmum var. alba. This normally pink flowered species is found throughout much of southeast Asia where it grows with warm, wet summers and cool, dry winters.

The species must have been named by someone with a strange sense of humor because "anosmum" means "no scent" but this species is very fragrant with the wonderful scent of raspberries.

An Asian species located growing as an epiphyte in forests that experience a dry period starting in October till spring. It's a species that has a strong aroma and for it to flower well it needs the resting period. Cultivated in baskets with sphagnum moss, partial sun and lots of water while active.

Dendrobium anosmum Alba is a fragrant epiphytic type orchid species widespread across South East Asia from Sri Lanka to New Guinea including Indochina Indonesia and the Philippines.

They are grown hanging down as they do in nature but in Taiwan, they grow up right in pots ( see my earlier anosmum Alba post) There are many varieties of anosmum but the most sought after is the Alba and the highly prized anosmum var Superbum.

Dendrobium anosmum Alba is in full bloom. When you have two plants in your garden this is what happens. Some are neglected and end up with too few flowers

Dendrobium anosmum gigantea 'Alba'

In my garden, Dendrobium Anosmum Alba is blooming.
Fragrant......sacred white......like an Angel.
Isn't she?

Tagged as Dendrobium parishii " semi alba"
The Den drobium anosmum huttonii should be similar to this color based on the original description and line drawing...unlike the pink Dendrobium that is being sold as houttonii
