Philodendron Bipinnatifidum | Philodendron Selloum

Philodendron Bipinnatifidum | Philodendron Selloum
Philodendron bipinnatifidum is a plant that belongs to the family Araceae and subgenus Meconostigma, one of three subgenera within the genus Philodendron. The commonly used name Philodendron selloum is a synonym.

Split Leaf Philodendron - Philodendron bipinnatifidum
The Split Leaf Philodendron, sometimes referred to as Philodendron selloum or tree philodendron is a herbaceous – semi woody shrub that may reach up to 15’ in height. Since the plant lacks structural support, older specimens often fall over and take on a vine-like appearance.

Deeply dissected, shiny green leaves, which may reach 3’ in length, are the most recognizable characteristic of this landscape tropical. The Split Leaf Philodendron does best in well drained soils with adequate moisture. It prefers partial – full shade. This plant has good hardiness characteristics and will often recover from cold/frost damage.

A little trivia!

Philodendron "Waverly" (chumley × evansii) × (Coral Gables dwarf × bipinnatifidum) grown by LariAnn Garner was awarded "Best in Show; 2014"

We love Philodendron bipinnatifidum because it has gorgeous big glossy leaves. It grows beautifully in a well-drained pot indoors in light to indirect light...I grew these inside in a colder climate but now grow them outdoors. The live very long as well I have two nearly 40 years old.

I have one growing outside at the bottom of the stairs in the shade...it gets really big...have to trim it back every now and then... LOVE IT

Philodendron bipinnatifidum is out in all its glory in the Glasshouses. Have a sniff if you pass by, we reckon it smells like lemon drops!

|| Philodendron bipinnatifidum "Philodendron Selloum" || Don't mistake this beauty for its #monstera cousin (its a sensitive issue). Monstera seems to have stolen the limelight...but the Philodendron Selloum's large, deeply lobed leaves while simple, are also striking. What are the two easiest ways to tell the selloum and the monstera apart? The monstera has aerial roots and a "swiss cheese" look to it's leaf while the selloum is simply lobed. Check out our #blog for more #selloum facts.

A big hitter in the plant world, it's large, dark green, glossy leaves will happily be cut from a robust plant and last for weeks in a vase for a striking display
