How To Get Rid of Noisy Miner Birds

I HATE the Noisy Miners. Yes, they are natives but they have decimated the variety of birds in my area (Melbourne). Five years ago we had tiny silvereyes, peewees, Willy wagtails, blackbirds, a dove species and a few others and they've all been chased away. The miners are relentless and attack birds in large groups. They've even chased the magpie family out of the tree on the nature strip. I hate them.

Here's a NOISY MINER doing what they are named for - being noisy. Too often people confuse these native birds with the introduced Common or Indian Mynah which is an altogether different bird.

Noisy Miner's are common around urban areas, mostly because they like forest edges and thus gardens that are not too densely vegetated. They are communal, pugnacious and do tend to chase other birds away. We used to have a lot on our property. However, they all but disappeared as the land became more bushy and treed. So if you want to get rid of Noisy Miners and attract other birds, here's my tip: give up your attachment to lawns and grow more large bushes and trees!
